The Boys Ranch Academy Therapeutic Treatment Center Boarding Schools for Boys

Primary

Counselor – J. D’Wayne Holiday, CADC, NCACI – Mr.

Holiday provides both individual and group counseling sessions

for the Ranch’s residents. The purpose of these counseling

sessions is to guide and enable the residents as they begin

to explore the possibility of making positive lifestyle

changes as a result of participation in the Ranch’s

programs. Mr. Holiday also conducts family interventions,

which begin immediately following admission in order to

establish or reestablish family dynamics. He is also responsible

for maintaining regular monthly progress reports on residents.

Through communication and cooperation with the county courts

and social agencies, Mr. Holiday represents the best interests

of the Ranch and its residents throughout the legal process.

Due to the high risk for addictive, anti-social, and other

destructive personalities within this population, all residents

participate in drug and alcohol education and awareness

classes. Here, Mr. Holiday illuminates the risks and legal

consequences associated with all drug classifications. He

offers healthy options and alternatives for dealing with

high-risk situations and peer pressure. He works to provide

residents with positive coping and social functioning skills

through character development. The spiritual principles

of AA, NA, and other philosophies are utilized in order

to stimulate and improve the residents’ desire to

overcome and master their emotional, mental, and physical

difficulties.

The Ranch’s Professional In-House Counseling Services

Once it is determined that an individual is eligible and

appropriate for admission to our program, he is assessed

and evaluated in order to construct an Individual Service

Plan. The Ranch’s counselors coordinate the development

of this plan with input from the courts, social service

agencies, the resident’s family and the resident.

This plan is designed to establish counseling goals as it

details the approaches that will be used to meet those goals.

In addition to providing all concerned parties with monthly

progress reports on each resident’s participation

and progress in the Ranch’s programs, our counselors

also serve as liaisons between probation, Children and Youth

Services, and all other agencies that provide services to

the residents. They represent the Ranch and contracting

agencies during court proceedings in the interest of accountability,

restitution, and community service for individual residents.

They work to encourage, support, and strengthen the efforts

of the Ranch’s Direct Care staff. Our counselors ensure

that the residents’ home environments are suitable

and safe for eventual home visits that can be earned by

the residents as they achieve the fourth level of the Ranch’s

program. Home passes are used as a tool to help smooth the

transition between life at the Ranch and the resident’s

return to his home environment. Upon successful completion

of our program, discharge plans for residents focus on follow-up

and after care to ensure a safe and positive transition

back into the community. Our counselors help to guide and

direct the residents through this transitional period.
